FAQ
Art of Arm is my creative practice, based in Toronto. It’s a space for developing and sharing personal work, experiments, and ideas that I want to explore.
It’s actually a little play on words. “Arm” comes from my name, Armin, but it also makes me think of making art with your hands. I liked the connection between my name and what I do, so Art of Arm just felt right.
Sculpture and installation are at the center of my practice right now, from individual pieces to larger spatial works. But Art of Arm isn’t limited to one medium. The idea usually comes first, and the material or form follows.
Sculpture has always felt like the most natural way for me to express an idea. I’m drawn to form, scale, texture, and the physical presence of an object. There’s something about taking an idea and giving it a physical presence that I keep coming back to.
Art of Arm is based in Toronto, Canada. While Toronto is home, the work itself isn’t tied to one place, and projects or collaborations can happen elsewhere in Canada, the U.S., or internationally.
It really depends on the piece. I’ve worked with fiberglass, resin, plaster, metal, foam, mixed media, and different mineral and textured finishes. I usually choose materials based on what makes sense for the form, scale, and feeling of the work.
Classical sculpture has always been a major influence, but inspiration can really come from anywhere — contemporary culture, architecture, objects, technology, or something I come across in everyday life. Sometimes an entire piece can start with a very simple observation or idea.
